Au revoir Vancouver!

And we're off! Back home we go.
I am sad to not be able to ride bikes in stanley park again- that was really fun. But I'm very excited to sleep in my own quiet, comfy bed again, and see my maxine.
Must go print out the sunday crossword from the LA times website, see you real soon Laguna.

Tuesday:
We went to Granville Island and went to the public market thing, really fun.
We went to this tiny shack for dad's lunch of fresh fish tacos, and mum and I got some italian white beans, fennel and celery salad, and yam, feta and sun-dried-tomato salad.
I found gluten-free macaroons at this little bakery which made my day. (Jane I don't think I told you but my doctor thinks I have celiac disease- I guess I'm at a high probability for it.)
After Granville we mosied over to Main street to look at some mainly vintage shops. We found this one antique store that was totally bitchin'. The owner and her co-owner made these awesome found antique object sculpture type things, she was very frank and cool.

We have created a new form of vacationing: Urban Camping. We stay in an apartment or a hotel room with a kitchen, make our own breakfast, bring/buy lunch, and then get salad stuff, cheese and bread (corn tortillas for me), and whatever meat dad wants and eat in! We have a gorgeous view from our room.
Then we go out on a walk along the sea wall (we are across the street from a bay) at about 9:30 because it stays light so late here.

Wednesday:
Rainy day. Loved it.
We went to the main art museum here which they call the "gallery". Saw a 17th century Dutch painter show and an Andre Gursky photo show. Had lunch at the cafe there which was soo yummy.
Mum and I shared vegan roasted yam, carrot and ginger soup and a yam, corn, and black bean salad.
Dad had his usual chicken pesto panini.
Then we came back to the hotel so I could register for my classes, then back out again. Went to Murchie's which is an old tea shop, and got a certain tea my papa drinks, and this amazing rose black tea that we like. ALSO found gluten free macaroons there! Little tiny ones, coffee and ginger favored.
Then went shopping at a few stores on Robson street that had been recommended. I dropped $95 on a really really cute dress. I never spend that much money on anything! ahhh! technically it was 85 with 10$ tax which we will claim at the airport. Mum found a really cute sweater there too, that's all cotton which is hard to find for her.
Went to Caper's (a branch of whole foods) to get more dinner stuff, and came back to eat and go on our night walk.

Today we're off to the Van Dusen Gardens, and the surrounding area for more shopping.
Should be fun.
Vancouver is kind of like San Francisco but sans the hotter-shit-than-thou mentality. I love it here, it feels like Europe.

Vancouver, British Columbia Pt.1

HI! I have sososo many pictures, I cannot put them all up here, but I shall put up a choice few.
We went to the UBC campus today to see the museum of Anthropology, and the japanese gardens: both were awesome. I would totally go to UBC if it didn't get so cold here! Plus I don't know a crumb about their art dept.
Unfortunately blogger uploads things in weird orders. apologies.
We're so mature.
UBC gardens.

The foliage and fauna here are so ridiculously beautiful.
TOTEMS. so cool.
Shoes.
Shoes.
Mama with the amazing clouds.
Our hotel: built in 1912.
Tunnel.
Lady.
Smattering of rain.
Cloud ceiling.
Off to run down to the park/lake to watch the sunset!?

Vancouver, British Columbia

Made it here alive-semi surprisingly. We hit some gnarly turbulence only for a brief while, but holy crap it was terrifying.
We flew into Seattle, and drove about 3/4 hours to Vancouver, not a bad drive at all, really gorgeous. Drove through a smattering of rain, and it kind of looks like it might rain tonight.
Were staying in this funky old hotel, built in 1912- it's freezing in here, can I just say? Though it's pretty and covered in ivy on a few sides. Our view over looks stanley park and the lake, very cool.

More later, and pictures. thank god it's finally time for bed.

Oh Canada

This Sunday I leave for Vancouver Canada (British Columbia) and I can't wait!
I will post pictures and travel journal et al.
The Forecast is rainy off and on, and in the high 60s- sounds good to me.
Also I want to start chronicling my favorite outfits so expect that. I need to actually use this thing....

6.18.09 Noah, the guy who has practically been my brother for most of my childhood graduated high school yesterday-very sad-but very cool. Our Hawaiian neighbors gave him this gorgeous lei.

6.12.09 Mum and I went to see Neko Case at the greek last week- she was spectacular; the epitome of cool and lax, her voice is her best instrument for sure.

6.12.09 The Prada store on Rodeo in Los Angeles.

6.11.09 Sweet Penelope.
